Prenatal Care

Chiropractic care is essential during pregnancy as the mother's spine and pelvis undergo many changes and adaptations for the growing baby. Postural changes in second and third trimesters due to the shift in the center of gravity, along with hormonal changes to prepare for delivery, make it important for expectant moms to have chiropractic care.

Specific chiropractic care throughout pregnancy works with enhancing mother's nervous system function and decreasing stress on the musculo-skeletal system which enhances baby's development. Pelvic alignment will ensure optimal room for the baby and encourage proper position for engagement in labour.

The Webster Technique (most commonly used in pregnancy) is a specific protocol of sacral adjustments and soft tissue techniques that research has shown to have an 82% success rate in reducing breech presentations. *JMPT JUL/AUG 2002 Research also shows that pregnant mothers who had chiropractic care had easier and shorter deliveries, not requiring as much medical intervention.*ICPA.

Pediatrics

Chiropractic care for children is obviously specific to their age and stage of development. Problems with the spine or extremities can begin in-utero or during the birth process. Having a spinal checkup for your child can have tremendous benefit, especially before and during rapid times of growth. Small problems, if corrected early, can prevent them from becoming worse as the child matures.

During the first year of life, critical developmental stages must be properly attained for optimal biomechanical function and lessen any nerve system stress. Watching and listening to your baby for even subtle signs and symptoms will alert you to possible issues that chiropractic care may benefit.

Results of many studies show that chiropractic care for musculo-skeletal issues in children is both safe and effective. Further benefits were found like improved sleep, better behavior and immune system function. *ICPA, 2007.presented at the 14th Annual Symposium on Complimentary Health Care in Exeter, UK.
